Sign Materials – Introduction

When it comes to signs, you can pick from a number of different sign materials to make sure your sign best serves your needs.  This goes for both the base materials the sign is made from as well as any materials used to give it a fancier appearance.  Different materials are used with different types of signs, and some are best suited for indoor use or outdoor use.  Others can be used for both interior signs and exterior signs.  Some materials are water resistant, others are fireproof or fire retardant.  Some are good for permanent signs and others are best for temporary signs.

Before you can start thinking about what kind of material you want, you need to find out what type of sign you need, as that will determine the choices of material you have available to you to select from.

In the next three parts of this series, we’ll explore some of the different materials and describe some of their uses in sign making to help you get a better idea of what you need to make your sign a success.
