Wayfinding and Directional Signs for Varex in Franklin Park, IL

Posted in: Industry News

The Sign Authority, Inc., located in Wheaton, IL recently completed an order of wayfinding and directional signage Varex, located in Franklin Park, IL. Varex combined several locations into one large location so they needed signage inside and out. There are so many choices for wayfinding and directional signage, it can be a daunting task to get started when you are beginning from scratch.

After an initial site survey and consultation with the facilities manager, we decided on a flat, modular wayfinding system that incorporates the ADA lens on the front of the room signs. In many cases ADA lenses are not necessary, like for instance in the custom cubicle signs. ADA lenses are only necessary when marking a permanent space like an office or conference room.

The great thing about these modular systems is that the faces/clear lens have a permanent ADA braille element and room number. Behind the lens is a piece of printed paper that delineates the room occupant or name. For example, in the photo you see here, the office room number and the ADA braille associated with that room number is on the lens. If you want to change the name of the person that is in that office due to a promotion or termination, you simple remove the lens, and replace the insert with a new printed name.

The conference room signs were customized with a slider bar at the bottom of the sign so that the occupants can let people know that the room is occupied at the moment and “do not disturb”.  The cubicle signs do not have the ADA braille lenses on them because they are not needed. We did provide a custom clip so that the signs can be easily slid over the top of the cubicle.

The Sign Authority provided all of the printed inserts for the initial installation of the wayfinding and directional signs, along with a template for the client to be able to reprint their own inserts going forward. How many of you have to contact your sign company to have an entirely new sign manufactured every time you have a personnel change? The modular wayfinding and directional signs will save you time and money!
