Custom Window Vinyl Logo for Rhea Kiser in Naperville, IL

Posted in: Industry News

custom vinyl windowsThe Sign Authority, Inc. just installed custom window vinyl with the company logo on the interior glass doors for Rhea Kiser’s office in Naperville, IL. Being an advertising agency, and wanting to maintain strict color identity for their logo, we offered them a custom solution for their glass entry doors. Glass doors can pose a unique challenge for sign companies when the client is specific about the colors for their logo. We can print and custom PMS match any logo, but when the doors or windows are glass and seen from both sides, printing is not the best option. The reason being is that when printing on vinyl there is a gray adhesive backing on the print. The backing is there because of the printing process. The other unique challenge with this logo as you can see in the photos is that the logo has a die cut section in the middle so you can see through to the other side. If they wanted a solid decal, we could have simply printed two decals and installed them back to back. So you ask how did you color match the clients logo with a non printed vinyl? The answer is not really simple.

We offer over 500 colors and textures in cast and calendared vinyl but what is the difference between printed and cut cast vinyl? First we need to look at:

What Makes Vinyl Vinyl?
Let’s begin with a few of the basics on vinyl films. Most vinyl films are made from the same basic raw materials. Our manufacturer begins with polyvinylchloride (PVC) polymer, which is simply basic plastic, and is, by nature, relatively rigid. Other ingredients are then added to the PVC. These ingredients include: plasticizer to make the film flexible, pigment to make the desired color, and additives to help achieve specific properties such as UV absorbers to improve resistance to UV radiation, heat stabilizers, fillers and processing aids.

Now that you know a little more about vinyl then you ever thought you needed to, the simple answer to the challenge was we made a visit to Rhea Kiser’s office and had them pick from our many color choices. The installation on the window looked great from both sides.
