Sandblasted Sign – Lisle, IL

Posted in: Industry News

Many of the signs we produce here at The Sign Authority are for several different park districts in the area. We love being a part of whatever the park districts are planning and giving back to the community in any way possible. So when the opportunity arose to help the Lisle Park District, we jumped on the chance to help them out. To make sure we were able meet the customers vision, we designed several different options for them to choose from.

A decision was made to use High Density Urethane as the material for the sign that would then be sandblasted to create the design. As inaccurate as “sandblasting” sounds, the equipment used is able to cut intricate details into many materials. The design called for raised lettering as well as a simulated wood texture. The lettering, raised logos, and border were all painted with a specialty outdoor paint to ensure durability for years.

The HDU itself is the perfect material for exterior signage. Without any laminate, the HDU is rated for a 10 year outdoor use. The material resists deterioration, warping, or cracking when exposed to the elements unlike wood. HDU is also 100% waterproof and unaffected by temperature so it will not rot or decompose. In addition, it’s also lighter than wood and easier to mount. So in the end, sandblasted HDU is preferable over wood in most situations.
