Prominence refers to the established nature of a company. Some locations in the offline world are more popular, and search results seek to reflect it on the local ranking. For example, well-known museums, landmark hotels or renowned stores that many people know about are also likely to be important for the results of local search.
Prominence is also focused on information about a company across the web (such as links, articles and directories) that Google has. In the local search ranking, the Google review count and score will be influenced by more reviews and positive ratings. Your role in site findings is also a consideration, so that SEO best practice also applies to optimizing local searches.
Important things to remember to increase your business prominence
- Your NAP (Name, Address and Phone Number) – Your name, address and phone number, are things that need to be consistent with your company around the internet. Google checks those. If it’s confused, if they’re different then you know, it’s gonna confuse Google. And when you do that, you lose. So making sure that your nap is consistent across all the properties that you have accounts on. So those properties could be Facebook, Nextdoor, Four Square, LinkedIn, all of these other places, of course they should all key directly into your Google My Business, that’s the King of NAP.
- Reviews – Reviews are of course very important for click through rate, meaning that when someone sees your company and compares it to any of your rivals, we really want our customers to have double or triple the amount of reviews. In this way, the click through rate improves. It allows you to become the no brainer choice. You just want a lot of reviews. Of course, and those reviews, you want to populate them or encourage people to search for your business using the keywords that you think people are using. So really that’s significant.
- Age of your Google My Business Listing – Just when you have that location in your business, you’ve set it up, you want to start right away. Get that, setting up and going on the Google My Business list, because that age is really important. One of the variables in the rankings is how long it was there. With something called link building we can increase the power of that listing. We want to have as many sites as possible that link back to us. And the more you do that, the more your authority, the more your prominence increases.
- Writing Articles on Your Site About Your Service – It brings people who are interested in what we are doing to our site, which helps our prominence. We need loads of articles about how to promote your company online, all of which enhances your prominence and authority at all times. So, we want that. We want the brand authority on our articles showing that we are an expert in this field. You should always have some form of graphic with it when you’re making those posts, be it a picture or anything like that. This is amazing. If you can pair it with other Google platforms such as YouTube, make a YouTube video about it, anything that brings a person out there and then keeps them there. That is what Google wants. And this is what gives back authority and prominence to the company.
