Scottsdale, AZ – Firearm Review: Sig Sauer 45P227 Pistol | Gun Range News

Posted in: Industry News

The P227 is a service-sized pistol that at first glance may not seem that different from its predecessor, the P226 handgun. In reality, it is very similar in appearance as well as function, but there is one major difference. The P227 is chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge.

This firearm may seem average and standard, but there are a few exceptional quirks that it has within the build, and especially for aftermarket supplies. It is a fairly customizable firearm making it ideal for concealed carry and self-defensive situations.

Check out what we have to say about the Sig Sauer P227 firearm below. If this is the gun that’s right for you, we recommend contacting our staff or visiting our stores to see if it’s in stock today for an affordable price.

P227 Build

The P227 is a tradition double-action/single-action pistol with a barrel length of 4.4” and a weight of 2lbs. The frame is a black hardcoat with anodized aluminum alloy and a nitron finished stainless steel slide. The grip is a one-piece E2 style.

Performance of the P227

In short, the SIG P227 performs exactly as you would expect it. The trigger is smooth and the recoil matches it’s size and caliber. In reality, the P227 shoots and feels almost identical to the P226 predecessor, with the obvious more recoil from the .45 cartridge.

The bullets from this pistol go right where you aim them and it is reliable to continuously shoot with no malfunctions. The trigger and other relevant functions may be slightly clunky when shooting it for the first time, but they are quick and easy to master afterwards.

P227 Magazine and Accessories

The main goal with building the P227 was to put the .45 caliber cartridge into a smaller sized pistol. For the most part SIG was successful in this mission. The standard magazine for the P227 holds ten rounds, but extended magazines can hold up to fourteen.

These extended options add about an inch to the bottom of the grip which can be nice for those with larger hands to grip. However, for those with smaller grippings, the extended magazine may look unwieldy, but it is no problem to handle.

The P227 comes with two varieties of sights: contrast and SIGLITE sights. The first is a standard white dot front with a notch and vertical back line. The second option is tritium sights that have a 3-dot aiming system great for high and low light situations. This also helps to make this pistol a popular option for concealed carry and self-defense ownership.

The most customizable part of the P227 is the slide. The slide frame on this firearm will accept any P220 model slide assemblies. This includes SAS, Super Match, or Carry slides. Plus, all of the .22 LR kits that work with the P220 should also work with the P227.
