Tempe AZ -Reviewing the Walther 380AUTO PK380 Pistol | Gun / Shooting Range News

Posted in: Industry News

The PK380 Pistol from Walther is specifically built for smaller or less physically abled shooters. Those who need softer recoil, lighter triggers, and the like would find this pistol to be one of the best on the market. It is little and light, but not necessarily diminutive compared to other pistols on the market, with a hammer-fire action, weighing in at 18 oz and having an overall length of 6.5”. It’s a little too big to be considered a subcompact pistol, but when considering the rest of its features that might still be worth the buy.

Grip: This pistol has an extremely comfortable grip. Its slightly bigger size than other compact pistols on the market helps to give it enough heft and room to truly feel secure in the hand while shooting. The modest finger grooves within the polymer grip help the strengthen any shooters grip, including those that may have lost strength in their hands for one reason or another. However, this pistol lacks a backstrap and there is no grip adjustment available, so for those who it doesn’t quite fit, there is little wiggle room to make it better.

Magazine: The 8-round magazine is nickel-plated and single stack with witness holes for each round. To help with grip comfort there is a small pinky finger extension, however it does not noticeably change the size of the grip. There is an ambidextrous paddle magazine release at the rear of the trigger guard making it easier to use with the trigger finger rather than the stereotypical thumb release. It is not necessarily a disadvantage but would be something that typical shooters would need to adjust to.

Trigger: The trigger tends to have crisper break and smoother pull during double action when compared to single action. However, the single action’s light pull, once again, could be great for shooters that have less hand strength. The trigger reset is super short and makes it easy to get 8 rounds out quickly. The PK380 is one of the softest pistols on the market with virtually no felt recoil. It is another intentional design choice to be able to market to smaller shooters who may struggle with the strong kickback of heavier firearms.

Accuracy and Reliability: This pistol is quite accurate, for the defense that it is designed for. It is not meant to be a competitive pistol, but as a self-defense and potential bulky concealed carry it will work. To make up for the slightly less than desirable accuracy, the PK380 is extremely reliable. It doesn’t necessarily play nice with all ammo choices, once you find the one that works it works with absolutely no malfunctions even if you aren’t the best at remember to clean your firearms.

The PK380 is a typical pistol that’s a bit big for concealed carry but great for the smaller shooters to work with. If you fit into that category, or are simply looking for an easier pistol on your hands, definitely check this on out on the market.
