Tampa, Florida: Indoor School Lobby Gains Dimensional Sign

Posted in: Industry News

Interior lobby walls at Trinity School of Tampa continue to be enhanced by new signage. This time it is a dimensional, lightweight sign for an annual student honor.  Previously Trinity School had Premier Signs fabricate and install signs ranging from silver channel letters up high on indoor walls, to plaques just outside entrance doors. However, this sign’s inspiration was more important than its wall placement. It will display the name of a new student each year that embodies the heart of the school.

The placement was to be on a large indoor lobby wall, eyelevel for all to see. The sign request was unique, not just because they needed a large, lightweight, sign that looked “heavier” than it was, but that the sign needed to include a custom dimensional acrylic tornado!

So Premier Signs designers created and fabricated a sign made of an aluminum backer with a woodgrain vinyl applied to the front. Using the aluminum backer kept the sign light, while the woodgrain vinyl gave it the look of a much heavier sign. Next they fabricated the custom heart of the tornado out of precision cut acrylic and attached it on the front. Similarly the title and name of the award’s benefactor were also cut from this glossy black acrylic and affixed to the front, beside the symbol. This lobby sign’s intention is to display past and future winners of this heartfelt award, so extra matching rectangles were also placed on the front to exhibit these future awardees. The crowning touch is a long plaque holding inspirational words that explain the criteria for the winner, out of matching black acrylic.

Even though there are a lot of components to this sign, the aluminum as well as the acrylic, accomplished the task of creating a substantial looking sign that remained lightweight. Because of this, this indoor lobby sign was easily installed in just the perfect spot. To give even more dimension to the look of the sign, the entire sign was installed on the interior lobby wall with beautiful silver peg standoffs. Not having to use a heavy frame or brackets that would have distracted from this piece, the silver standoffs completed the look and gave Trinity School another beautiful custom sign.
