Is your Hospital easy to navigate?

Posted in: Industry News

Have you ever rushed to a hospital for an emergency or to visit an injured or ill loved one?  In a stressful situation like this, the last thing someone wants to encounter is more stress or confusion.  Exterior Wayfinding signs should improve the visitor’s navigation process through the hospital.

The navigation process begins the moment your vehicle enters the facility.  In many cases, the hospital may be unfamiliar to the visitor.  Also, the hospital could be very large and confusing to navigate through.

For such a high stress environment; it is imperative that there are clear and visible custom ADA and Wayfinding signs to guide visitors.

The first action upon entry of a hospital is the search for some sort of “travel path” sign.  The Way-finding program is key to a satisfactory visitor experience.  Hospitals should have an easy to navigate facility with Wayfinding signage that is easy to follow.

Outdoor directories and Directional signage should be the first thing a visitor recognizes as soon as they enter the premises of a large institution, especially hospitals that are large and usually have multiple buildings.  Believe it or not, directional signs create the first experience of establishing the brand of an institution.

There are many types of Wayfinding signs that can improve the patient, employee and visitor experience and create a welcoming experience as well as ease of navigation.  Several types of these signs include: A-Frames, Banners, Pole banners, Directories, Routed Signs, LED Displays, Post & Panels signs, light boxes, Vinyl Banners, and Parking Signs.

There are also many options for Wayfinding and ADA Signage such as surface mounted, recessed, free-standing, wall mounted and flag mounted.  Directional signs can be installed with standoffs, be curved or flat shaped, and the option of a digital sign is a very popular and modern addition to hospitals.

It is ideal to have either a wall mount directory or a free-standing kiosk that shows you where you are and directs you to your desired location.

Wayfinding signs are imperative at hospitals.  Visual cues should be visible upon entry.  Directional signs should enable a simplified route for pedestrians and motorists.
