Make Sure Your Signage Is ADA Compliant

Posted in: Industry News

Does your signage meet ADA standards?  The Americans with Disabilities Act was created in 1990 to protect those with disabilities. Signage is a large part of this act, and it is required that signage must be legible to everyone regardless of disability. Elevator signs, bathroom signs, or signs that mark certain rooms, like a classroom, are all encompassed in this act. These signs must meet specific criteria with the typography and placement of the sign, and include braille.

Here at Custom Sign Source we make sure that every project we work on meets ADA standards. We understand how important it is to make signage accessible to everyone, and that not meeting these regulations can have some harsh penalties. In 2014 the maximum civil penalty for a fist time violation was raised to $75,000, and $150,000 for a second offense. If you want your signage to meet ADA regulations, contact us by emailing info@customsignsource.net or call (973) 970-9280 and we can start working together today!
