San Leandro, CA – Skate Industry News: Jimmy Wilkins Is Bringing Vert Back

Posted in: Uncategorized

Jimmy Wilkins was born in Columbus, Ohio on Sept. 10th 1993. The son of a professional ballerina and an orchestra conductor, Jimmy Wilkins is familiar with the importance of practice and is an artist on the ramp. At XG Austin 2014, he went from complete obscurity to the youngest X-Games Skateboard Vert gold medalist of all time. Raised in Ohio, Wilkins now lives in SoCal, where he skates on Tony Hawk’s ramp. The young talent draws skaters from other disciplines to the ramp just to watch his fresh style.

Prominent vert skater Jimmy Wilkins has finally turned professional for Real Skateboards at the young age of 28 – a key figure as a successful contest skateboarder with a long-overdue promotion is now in the pro rankings. “Still can’t believe this.” Wilkins wrote on a recent instagram post. “Still at a loss for words. So grateful for these people and these moments. Thank you, Max Schaaf, Nate Alton Jim Thiebaud, Christian Alexander, Tim Fulton, and the whole Real team and everyone at deluxe, and all the friends that came out for this. And a huge thank you to Owlcat for doing the graphic, such an honor. I don’t think I’ll ever stop smiling after yesterday. THANK YOU!”

Wilkins just released a full video part entirely consisting of bangers thrown 100% on the vert ramps! We have not seen this much excitement about vert skating since the days of Bob Burnquist kick flip nose grinding on top of a picnic bench on top of the vert deck and Tony’s 900!! It’s looking like vert may be back in a big way!! Go get’em Jimmy!!
