San Leandro, CA – Skate Industry News: Ace Trucks Makes A Better Turn That Most

Posted in: Uncategorized

Ace Trucks, Mfg. is a skateboard truck brand based out of San Francisco, California. Started by Joey Tershay (brother of Nicky Diamonds of Diamond Supply Co.). Joey saw a need for a truck that turned better. Joey used to work for Independent Trucks and noticed even their trucks didn’t have the turnability they once had. Seeing this hole in the market, Joey forged the first Ace Truck from his blood, sweat and tears… and some metal. He created Ace trucks and started to grow the brand with his friends.

Eventually, fellow skateboarder, Shrewgy, an industry titan left Thunder Trucks team manager gig and teamed up with Tershay to make the powerhouse it has become. Until 2012, Ace was wholly run and distributed by Tershay and Ruge out of San Francisco.

From 2012–2016, Ace was distributed through Diamond Supply Company, a skateboard hard goods and accessories company based out of Los Angeles. The geometry of Ace trucks is designed to maximize their turning radius and allow the hanger to return to center following turns. Barrel-shaped bottom bushings are used for stability. The truck design is intended to maximize turning. A slight shortening of the wheelbase (1/4 inch shorter than the wheelbase of an industry standard truck) allows for sharper turns. Ace bushings have two distinct durometers (91a top bushings and 86a bottom bushings) to avoid the restriction of turning radius that can occur with barrel-shaped bottom bushings.

Design styles include – V1 – Slim hanger with the “rocker” (curve). V2 – Increased hanger thickness on 44, 55, and 66 models. Still had the “rocker”. Standard axle nuts. V2.5 – Identical to V2 except for the introduction of the .38 inch “specials” axle nuts, which came stock. V3 – Beefed up hanger on 33, 44, 55, and 66 models. Standard axle nuts. Softer bushings than prior iterations. Eliminated “rocker”, and the all-new ACE AF-1 features game-changing performance without deviating from our original Ace geometry. The AF1 is carefully manufactured using our proprietary casting process. Years in development, the ACE AF1 has a 70% increase in the aluminum’s structural integrity, making it the strongest cast truck on the market. Whatever your style of skating, Ace has you covered!

Ace Trucks has a rich history and a bright future!!
