San Leandro, CA – Skate Industry News: Tokyo Games Concluded: Yuto Wins Gold!

Posted in: Uncategorized

This year marks the first time for skateboarding as an Olympic event. We have finally made it through the sacred games amidst global pandemics and scheduling nightmares.

The 2021 Tokyo Olympics are officially concluded and the medalists are in! Japan’s hometown hero Yuto Horigome won the first ever street skateboarding competition at the Olympic Games. I am sure that all the skaters are delighted in Japan. Yuto had the Gold and it is well deserved. In the park section, Australian Keegan Palmer threw it down on his final run, earning a massive 95.83 score and securing the gold medal for his country!

Thirteen-year-old Momiji Nishiya dazzled during the Olympic women’s skateboarding street competition. She skated through a park of rails, ramps and stairs meant to mimic city street parks at the Ariake Urban Sports Park. When she finished, she became Japan’s youngest-ever gold medal winner and one of the youngest Olympic champions of all time. Nishiya shared the podium with two other teenagers. Brazil’s Rayssa Leal, 13, took home the silver. The eldest of the bunch, 16-year-old Funa Nakayama of Japan, earned the bronze.

Yosozumi Sakura stuck back-to-back 540s during her first final run to winning the gold medal at the women’s park skateboarding final, 12 year old Hiraki Kokona earned the silver medal for Japan, finishing just over one point shy of the gold and 13 year old Sky Brown took the bronze.

Congrats to all the skaters who even got a chance to skate for their country! What an honor!! Congrats to Japan for multiple medals!
