San Leandro, CA – Skate Industry News: Welcome Back To Skating Cory Kennedy

Posted in: Uncategorized

Professional skateboarder Cory Kennedy was released from prison last month, after serving a 3-and-a half-year sentence for vehicular manslaughter.

In 2017, Kennedy was driving under the influence of alcohol in Vashon Island, Washington with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.10. Legal limit in Washington is of 0.08. Kennedy failed to navigate a turn while driving over the speed limit and the passenger side of his car hit a tree, fatally injuring one of his best friends and the beloved skate filmer Preston Maigetter, also known as P-Stone. A loss the whole world could feel. On February 8, 2018 Kennedy was sentenced to 48 months in prison, as well as a year of house arrest, and released early due to good behavior.

Kennedy first came to prominence after winning the amateur competition “Bang Yo’self 2”, for which contestants were required to submit video parts to the judges from The Berrics website. In 2009 Kennedy finished in third place at “The Battle at the Berrics 2” contest, losing to Paul Rodriguez in the finals round. Since then Kennedy has released a plethora of video parts and appearances such as Pretty Sweet , Beware of the Sasquatch , Nike SB: Chronicles 3, and many Thrasher King of the Road Episodes, which have all helped cement his place in the hearts and minds of skateboarders.

Hopefully you can find forgiveness in your heart and welcome back someone who made a mistake and will have to live with that on his own for the rest of his life. I support him in getting back to doing what he loves and was born to do. Go get it Cory!
