San Leandro, CA – Skate Shop News: 2020 – Taking A Hard Look Back at This Year

Posted in: Uncategorized

I’m not sure how your year was… but it was a touch crazy over here.

I actually started the year out great, lot’s of projects in the wings, new businesses starting, and then Australia caught fire. Maybe we should have looked at this as more of an omen, but we figured it was just a really crazy fire. Little did we know that that fire would unknowingly be the precursor to the rest of the planet catching fire in some way or another. The metaphorical snowball began to roll and quickly spitting chaotic events throughout the world including wars, major leaders in the middle east being executed, the UK taking their ball and going home, more drone attacks, impeachment starts and we haven’t even gone on lock down yet.

On March 11th the world would change forever. WHO declares a global pandemic and the era of Covid would be ushered in face shields and hand sanitizer. Over the next several months it would be much of the same, lockdown, open up, repeat. 6 foot distance, plexiglass and face masks everywhere, this is the world we now live in. Most of us are adapting and trying to move forward. Skateboarding has not stopped.

Despite a global catastrophe and dozens of industries are coming to a grinding halt, skateboarding has waxed the rails and is sliding into the biggest boom since 1993. Skate shops and skate parks are popping up everywhere, and the shops cannot keep product on their shelves. Why? Skateboarding is a great activity you can do anywhere, anytime and you can practice social distancing very easily. It is a great aggression release and landing tricks surely helps boost endorphins.

As you look over your year, try and look at the positives. It might be hard, but give it a try, and if you can’t, go skate. Guaranteed to boost your mood and take your mind off the craziness of this year. Be safe and let’s all have a better 2021!
