San Leandro, CA – Skate Shop News: New Year’s Resolutions for Skateboarders

Posted in: Uncategorized

It is a New Year!! Time for some resolutions!!

In a 2014 report, 35% of participants who failed their New Year’s Resolutions admitted they had unrealistic goals, 33% of participants didn’t keep track of their progress, and 23% forgot about them; about one in 10 respondents claimed they made too many resolutions.

Now this happens every year, and with out fail, we try and come up with some grandiose resolution to lose weight, eat better, go back to school, finally organize the garage…. yea, good luck with that. See you next January.

While these thoughts may be thought with the best of intentions, we sometimes set goals for ourselves that are just out of reach without a few steps in between. Some resolutions never take off because the goal is too vague. We set ourselves up for failure immediately by forgetting that somethings require multiple steps before they can be accomplished. We really need to keep this in mind when making this years resolutions.

So this year, as a skateboarder, I challenge you to push yourself, but also remember to reach for goals that are possible first. If you want to kickflip El toro this year, maybe make sure you can kickflip first. But seriously, set yourself some skate goals this year. Push yourself to learn 1 new trick a month, or a week, even a day if you have the time, but make sure the goal you set is realistic.

Having a good community around you is a good tool for success. Let your friends be accountable to you and vice versa. Push your friend and he will push you back.

Happy New Year’s!!!
