San Leandro, CA California’s Worst Fire Season 2021? What It Means For Insurance

Posted in: Industry News

Sponsored image Fire Season is upon us……The purpose of the article is not to be political, but I recently received the following from our Mayor:

Gov. Gavin Newsom is warning Californians to be prepared for what could be the most disastrous fire season yet, with red flag warnings starting earlier than ever due to a worsening drought, rising temperatures and plentiful arid landscapes ready to catch fire. He’s proposed a record $2 billion budget to help our state get prepared.

The dry weather and increased concern about fires is causing insurance rates to rise and availability to fall.  It’s not pretty right now and could get worse.  Be prepared to see a hefty increase on your homeowners insurance premium and even worse, a non-renewal notice.  Right now, we are seeing increases on all policies and non-renewals in area close to brush or open space.  Maintaining a clearing of trees and brush around your home and property can help you keep your insurance in some cases, but in other situations, the insurance company does not budge and enforces the non-renewal.

Bottom line, this year is going to be one of the most challenging years for placing homeowners insurance coverage, so we encourage you to call us with questions, concerns and all other issues.  We are your trusted source for all things insurance.

Enjoy a safe and Happy Memorial Day! Sponsored image
