Oakland, CA – Our Auto Mechanics Specialize in Mercedes-Benz Brake Repairs

Posted in: Industry News

As any Mercedes-Benz owner knows, these vehicles are built to last. But like any car, they require regular maintenance and occasional repairs to keep them running smoothly. One of the most important aspects of maintaining a Mercedes-Benz is assuring the brakes are in good working order.

How to Know When Brakes Need to be Repaired or Replaced

  • Soft Breaking: If the Mercedes-Benz feels like it is taking longer to stop than usual or the brake pedal sinks to the floor when pressed, the brakes need to be repaired or replaced.
  • Squealing or Grinding Noises: If the brakes are making squealing or grinding noises, this is another sign they need to be serviced. When the brake pads and rotors wear down, they can begin making these noises.
  • Vibrating: If the brake pedal or steering wheel begins to vibrate when the brakes are applied, this is a sign the rotors may be warped and need to be replaced.
  • Pulling: If the car pulls to one side when the brakes are applied, there may be an issue with the brake caliper or pads.
  • Leaking Fluid: If there is any sign of brake fluid leaking, this is a serious problem which needs to be addressed immediately. A leak in the brake line can cause the brakes to fail.

How Often Should Routine Brake Maintenance be Performed?

Routine brake maintenance is recommended every 12,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. This includes inspecting the brakes for wear and tear and replacing the brake pads and rotors if necessary. In addition, the brake fluid should be flushed and replaced every two years to prevent corrosion and maintain proper braking performance.

If there are any concerns about the condition of the brakes or if it has been more than 12,000 miles since the last brake service, we recommend bringing the Mercedes-Benz into our shop for an inspection.
