The Yao Noi resort Six Senses enjoys a beautiful island location on Koh Yao Noi. This latter is a large island in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, equidistant from Phuket and the mainland of Krabi. While the pace of development on Koh Yao Noi is accelerating, the island remains a quiet refuge which feels far away from Phuket’s crowds.

Given its remote location on the island, getting to the resort through a combination of car and boat (which is arranged by the resort) is very convenient. When you fly into Phuket, you will be greeted at the airport upon arrival and will be transported by private car in about 20 minutes to the Ao Por Grand Marina, where a speedboat will be on standby to take you to the resort in about 45 minutes.  If you request a transfer from Krabi Airport, then you’ll be driven to Thalane Pier in about 45 minutes, from where a speedboat will take you to the resort in about 20 minutes.

The boat transfer to the port, whether from Phuket or Krabi, is in reality a stunning sightseeing trip in itself as Phang Nga Bay is marked by dramatic scenery, with gravity-defying calcareous formations jutting out of the emerald-green water vertically. In the James Bond movie’ The Man with the Golden Gun’ and the Hollywood blockbuster’ The Beach’ starring Leonardo Di Caprio the Bay was used as the setting for island scenes. The beautiful, green resort grounds occupy a large hill in a remote corner on Yao Noi Island’s east coast, and are surrounded by tropical rainforest. There is also a short, but private beach (with beach club).

There are 56 villa rooms in the resort, either tucked away in the rainforest, along the coast, or located high up on the hill. All styles of villa come with ample space and a private swimming pool. I stayed at a Hideaway Pool Villa during my holiday (# 52). Although this is the lowest type of villa you can book (because it has no open views to the ocean), the villa still provides generous personal space. A staircase leads from the entrance into a decked area with a private infinity-edge swimming pool, sun loungers and a dining area outside it. Inside, there is a small bedroom, a sitting room, plus a bathroom with a bathtub (with a view), a double sink, and a shower outside. The villa also has a rooftop terrace with double spa sala for private treatments. Sustainability tops the resort’s agenda with various activities aimed at reducing negative impacts and promoting positive impacts. The Eco-friendly Strategy focuses on energy efficiency, water and waste management, social engagement, natural environment safety, air quality and noise control. For example, the resort has its own organic chicken farm with 200 young laying hens providing fresh eggs daily for guests.
