Rockville, MD – MacroGenics Monument Sign and Pushed Through Acrylic

Posted in: Videos

MacroGenics came to us for an upgrade on their signage, we removed the old faces and fabricated new aluminum with pushed through acrylic on their monument sign. This was a collaborative project with CRB Construction, property owner BioMed Realty and MacroGenics. The new design needed to comply with BioMeds realty sign standard for style and color. They have been excellent customers and we have done several  interior and exterior signage jobs for MacroGenics at both of there Rockville locations including; channel letters, wayfinding signage, lobby signs, lab and office signs.

Macrogenics are a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing innovative monoclonal antibody-based therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune disorders and infectious diseases.

A Few Thoughts on Pushed through Acrylic

Once a design is approved, the raw aluminum sign face that becomes the background for the push-thru graphics is routed so that the letter areas are cut through. The metal centers of letters are saved as applicable and later re-attached with adhesive. Next, the acrylic sheet is routed leaving a flange so that the face of the acrylic graphics will push through the openings in the aluminum. After everything is cut and dry-fitted, the aluminum panels are primed and finished and are ready to accept the flanged graphics, which are cemented to the backside of the aluminum panel.

The pre existing sign shown above did not display the name of the tenant,  We suggested that they did not need to replace the entire sign but could add new faces with push through acrylic using MacroGenics colorful  logo.

The results was an overwhelming success for everyone involved. We will be continuing to work with MacroGenics on new projects.  Thanks so much for reading and stay tuned for our next blog post.
