Signage FAQs | What is Dynamic Digital Video?

Posted in: Industry News

You have probably seen them and don’t realize it. They look a lot like flat screen televisions – because, essentially that’s what they are. Dynamic Digital Video is the latest trend in flexible content signage and advertising. What could be better than to install a single screen, or multiple screens, in your business and stream ever changing content to your clients, staff and visitors? This would avoid a lot of reprinting and reinstalling signs every 30, 60 or 90 days. You can even have audio!

Well, up until recently, this technology has been extremely pricey and outside of the range of most small and medium-sized businesses. This has changed recently as the price of LCD/flat panel displays have come down, the content production has also become easier. In past, most content had to be externally produced which limited the application to big businesses with big budgets. Now a number of systems have PC based production tools that allow you to create and update content yourself. It’s a lot like building a slide deck and inserting video clips. You still have the option of externally created materials if that makes sense for your business.

You see this trend already with digital billboards that cycle the face content every 15-30 seconds. Many physicians have also been looping stock health content in their waiting rooms for the last decade.  All of this is just a precursor to what we will see with true dynamic digital video that allows for a partitioned screen with a text creeper, static and video images at the same time. With the up front investment barriers coming down and the ability to self-manage or even create original content at will, we expect to be seeing more and more dynamic digital video signage in the future.
