Signs Richmond | Energy Smart Signs

Posted in: Industry News

Green is the new black, or so the saying goes. Everyone is wanting to take the business green and even in the sign business, we are also working on ways to save energy as well as maintenance costs, green house emissions and use of hazardous products.

The biggest casualty in the greening of the custom sign industry has been neon. Neon signs have been a mainstay of commercial and decorative lighting but the cost of electricity as well as the fact that mercury and lead were often used in neon production make it less than earth-friendly.  Add to that the cost of running neon lit signs and the maintenance costs associated with recharging the glass tubes and you have a truly inefficient means of getting your name out there. Many localities in California and in other parts of the country are prohibiting the installation of new neon as part of their building code and permitting processes.

LEDs are swiftly taking over where neon has left off. To find out how and why, click here http://www.richmondsignscapes.com/custom-signs-richmond-blog/bid/32621/Signs-Richmond-Your-name-in-LIGHTS and read more about this greening trend.
