Katy, TX – Spotlight: Mall Sign Offers Branding Attention | Front Row Signs News

Posted in: Client Examples

With many consumers predominantly shopping online, the mall experience has to really step up their game. We are very proud as a preferred sign vendor for Katy Mills mall. Have you seen their updated look? They have really outdone themselves with a fresh, modern look that reflects the outlets and local businesses stores. The mall has specific sign restrictions and regulations to follow plus they are under the jurisdiction of city of Katy for permitting, which can be quite challenging. For today’s post, we will look at one of the store’s we helped recently with their signs and the challenges we overcame during the project.

We were contacted initially by the construction company hired by the client, an on-trend fashion jewelry store. Lovisa is a worldwide brand that offers fashion forward jewelry at ready to wear prices. They were expanding into the Houston and Katy markets and chose Katy Mills mall as their next installment. The scope of the job included installing their pre-fabricated storefront sign. We knew the regulations from the mall already so we had to update the customer with the additional blade sign requirement. At first, they believed they would fabricate the blade sign as well but we ended taking care of that for them. Next, the mall had a few issues with the pre-fabricated storefront sign and after much back & forth with the mall, the construction company, and the client’s representative, we were allowed to utilize the storefront sign as is. After first receiving approvals from the mall, next we had to apply for the city of Katy sign permits.

City of Katy permitting requires many specific submissions along with their application. You must have a registered sign contractor account. You need a separate application for each sign you need to permit. You must provide specific drawings of each sign with tons of details.  They should include the details of the components of the sign, sizes, colors, materials, hardware, process of installation, types of illumination, voltage requirements, location of each sign, deconstruction front & side views, square footage and linear feet, proposed and original images of the location of where the proposed signs are to be installed, notations on the images showing the full height and width of the available space, rendering of the proposed signs at their installation point and still more! If any of their required details are missing, your permits will be rejected and returned. Then the process starts all over again. With this in mind, we are super detail oriented ensuring each component required is included to avoid any delays and rejections.

Pouring over the many restrictions, regulations and rules of specific companies, locations, landlords, cities, counties or HOA’s can be very time consuming and confusing. This is what we do every week to take away any of the stress from our clients. Reach out to us for a free strategy session by using our contact form on the website. We are ready to help your sign experience be a happy one!
