NSA tools were taken from a contractor by hackers, and it is believed that the Russian owned Kaspersky software was used as a tool in the theft. The US government no longer uses the software after the robbery.

Still Viable

This does not mean that Kaspersky does not do its intended job for your personal computer. We have recommended and sold Kaspersky for many years. It is still a viable choice for virus protection; however, we now believe Malwarebytes is a better option for most computers. This more robust program offers better bang for the buck! For most customers, our current advice is to use Kaspersky until your subscription expires, since it still is a very good product, and then switch to Malwarebytes version 3.0. We sell and now recommend Malwarebytes over Kaspersky for many of our customers.
