We recently had a customer call us with a problem that required some computer repair for a Windows system that had crashed shortly after installing a newer version of the Windows operating system. All told, the problem essentially required diagnostic checkup, hardware cleanup, virus removal and booting up the new operating system on their machine.
The Reason the Computer Crashed
Initially the customer had told us that they upgraded to a newer version of Windows. They were previously running the Windows 7 operating system and they decided to upgrade to Windows 10. They believed that the new operating system upgrade was the cause of the crash. However, upon further inspection, our team at Cantrell’s Computer Sales and Repair determined that there was a massive buildup of dust on the heat sink, a component on the computer’s chipboard. This will cause overheating and the performance will degrade to the point where booting up is a problem. We used our air compressor to remove the dust from the heat sink.
Booting Up the Operating System
It appeared to boot up into the Windows 10 system, but there was still an issue. It was super slow! All hardware diagnostics, including hard drive, passed. It was just extremely slow to boot when booting into the operating system. We then performed a malware scan and found several entries in the system. We removed the compromising files and installed Kaspersky anti-virus. The computer was now running much faster! We finally upgraded the graphics chips driver to be optimized for Windows 10. They actually decided to stay with Windows 10 versus going back to Windows 7.
