Hi, I’m Erik Wolfers. I’m founder and managing member of First & Main Financial. We’ve been helping clients with personalized financial solutions since 2001—coming up on 20 years here. Today, I want to talk just a little bit about who we are and how we do things, and how that compares.
The financial services industry has somewhat of a checkered past. People sold products to their clients that weren’t always great for them, or that were over-priced, or had amazingly high fees. That sort of information has persisted even though much of it doesn’t take place anymore—and so people are often times a little bit mistrustful of what happens in the financial services industry and with good reason.
There are still products and people in our industry that are not really suited for clients that wind up using those products—and other products that are still very expensive; and there are products that are purported to do things that chances are extremely good won’t happened the way that they’re sold to happen—there’s a nuance and there are fine lines.
We do things in a way that’s educated, that comes with years of experience—and we back it whenever we can by science that’s been practiced for decades—some of which is back by Nobel prize-winning research. The way that we do things is not totally unique—there are other people that operate as we do, but it is pretty uncommon, we are in a small minority.
It turns out that often times we are engaged by people that really need help. They’ve had something happen in their family that’s life-altering or something that’s in the process of happening, or something that’s happened to themselves in the case of single individuals. We get people that are divorced who were not the financial person in the relationship. We work with clients that are retired and sometimes single and really need support. We’ve mentioned these kinds of things in videos in the past—but we are incredibly honored to be trusted by our clients.
We do get people that don’t have special unusual circumstances in their lives, but what we do is available to anyone. We’re not interested in limiting our time and our services to people of a certain wealth level or a certain professional category, because the work that we do is incredibly helpful and of value to our clients—and we’re going to keep doing it that way.
