Peoria, AZ – Gun Review: Walther 9MM CCP Pistol | Tactical Shooting Range News

Posted in: Industry News

The Walther CCP, Concealed Carry Pistol, was manufactured to serve a relatively neglected part of the firearm market. It is specifically designed and produced for shooters with weaker hands or reduced strength. So if you’re a seasoned shooting veteran who may be struggle with arthitis, this pistol means you won’t have to retire.

While you may be thinking of other firearms on the market that also cater to the weak-handed shooters, these options are not always the best caliber. Instead of the tactical 9mm or 45ACP pistols, they lighten the caliber to help with recoil and weight.

Walther found a way with their striker-fired and gas pistol to reduce recoil without reducing caliber. It is a reliable and effective pistol that is easy to handle and manuever without the necessary strength.

The CCP is one of a three-pistol series. The CCP is the base pistol that is all black and very standard. There is also the CCP-SS with a stainless steel slide that is lighter and a bit easier to handle and maintain than the all black version. And finally the CCP-380 ACP variant, with the obvious change in caliber from the standard original.

The Basic Specs

The CCP sports a 3.5” barrel and weighs 20 ounces total. It can hold 8 rounds of ammunition. The gun is in line with many other modern firearms in that it uses a striker-fired system and a polymer frame. There is a small port in the barrel that directs the gas from a fired round to delay the slide opening helping lessen recoil of the firearm.

The Perfect Size

Being manufactured specifically for those with smaller or weaker hands, the CCP is especially ergonomic and fits the hands well. It has a nice texture to keep the gun secured in your grip, even with sweaty hands with a manual safety mounted to frame that is easy to access.

With a lightweight slide and serrations on the front and rear grips, it is a firearm that’s easy to manipulate. However, keep in mind this firearm is specifically built for small hands. Shooters with bigger hands may find it slightly uncomfortable to grip with a slight pinch given by the magazine baseplate.

Shooting the CCP

The CCP is a great shooter. It’s reduced recoil system works well and makes it much easier and more accessible for lightweight shooters. Plus, ergonomically it is super comfortable. It chews through absolutely all ammunition types as long as it is properly loaded. So, it may be a bit of an adjustment period for newer shooters, but that’s to be expected with all firearms.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, the CCP lives up to its reputation. It is reliable beyond belief and a great shooters for small hand and small stature people. It is designed to for human hand ergonomics with an accuracy that is above average despite the long trigger pull. For the value it’s priced at, the CCP is definitely worth looking into.
