Sometimes one thing leads to another. After doing a lighted monument sign for Prime Realty in February that impressed a member of the Moore Chamber of Commerce, our name was recommended to the Orr family who was looking for lighted signs on an upcoming project destined for the Oklahoma State Fair this fall.
I first met with Glen Orr back in April, when we started with an initial assessment of his needs. The first thing we determined was that something other than channel letters would be required due to both the size and nature of this project. That was when we decided that multiple cabinets featuring state of the art LED lighting would be best suited for this project. LEDs provide lower power consumption, minimal maintenance, and long life. The first sign was dedicated to the Orr Family Farm logo. We wanted to be sure we maintained their existing branding in this section. The second sign was dedicated to the building’s main purpose, which is selling cookies and edible cookie dough at the state fair, delicious! That leaves the last two cabinets. These were placed on two separate circuits and were designed to be controlled by an RF module which allows for control of their flashing state, to help catch the attention of passersby, as well as for them to be turned on and off. Next, we needed to decide the shape of these cabinets and where to place them. It was decided to make them round, like a cookie. One was placed on the front next to the first two signs and the other was mounted around the corner in a blade or projection style, next to a sales window.
After deciding all of this, it was time to start the graphic design process of what should be put on the face of these signs. One of the fun aspects of this project was the joint effort amongst all the executives. The marketing director supplied the raw pictures, while input from other executives helped decide what color combinations and styles would best convey their purpose for these signs. We also had the unique requirement of these signs to stand up to road vibrations of this mobile unit. Our designers did a wonderful job taking all of these things into consideration to achieve signs that will be sure to catch the attention of all who come within a hundred feet of the Orr Family Farm Cookie Barn at this year’s Oklahoma state fair.
