Office and Residential Monument Signs

Posted in: Industry News

At Signs for San Diego we do a lot of Monument Signs. Many of the most interesting are for HOAs, Office Buildings, Residential communities and other multi tenant complexes. These differ from the business park and retail monument signs. Often there is a specific style that matches the community it represented. The budgets run the gamut from extravagant to shoe string. These are the interesting ones. They are all over the map. This makes for a good set of construction examples:

Concrete. Developers have the concrete and skills on site when they pour foundations. A concrete monument sign is an exercise in wooden form construction. The letters are reverse foam and poured at the same time.

Concrete block. This is a lot more flexible and more can be done with block. This is often the foundation for different materials in a monument sign

Foam. High density foam can be cut and shaped in a huge number of ways. It is joined into the final shape, sealed and textured. It can be made to look like stone, brick, or concrete and it much lighted, more versatile and easier to work with.

Post and Panel. This is a classic with steel or aluminum poles (round or square) and a panel. The
panels can be wood, PVC or metal. 2 Aluminum 4” square poles with a PVC panel is weather proof and is a great low cost alternative to masonry

Wood. We see a lot of older wood monument signs. They are beautiful, but problematic. Wood rots, termites like it and so do we. We replace a lot of these with better, more durable materials.
