Get Rid of Algae by Running Your Filter Longer

Posted in: Industry News

Most people erroneously think algae is caused by not enough chlorine in the water.  Truth is, if you want to get rid of algae you can do so by running your filter longer.

A pool with no chlorine in it at all could still be algae free if the water in the pool is being completely turned over at least one time a day.  When the water goes through the filter it comes back out cleaner.

When you try to cut back on your PG&E usage to save yourself some money, normally in the end you will end up costing yourself more money because algae killing chemicals are quite expensive, anywhere from $30-60 per treatment!  And if you need more than one treatment, all your energy savings are eaten up.

Heated pools are the absolute worst type of pool to try to cut your filter times back on because algae loves hot water.  If you heat your pool and then stop running your filter 6-8 hours a day at least, rest assured you will get algae.

Other causes of algae are low water level because now the system can’t filter at all; phosphates in the water; lack or improper brushing;and too much debris and/or vegetation in the pool.

So do yourself a favor and get rid of the algae once and for all by running your filter longer.
