Phosphates Cause Algae – Ever Heard of them?

Posted in: Industry News

Are you struggling with algae?  No matter what you do, it won’t go away.  You add chlorine and tabs, you brush the pool daily, you run the filter 24/7, you clean the filter, you keep the water level at the proper level and empty all your baskets.  And still, the algae persists.

Did you know Phosphates cause algae?  Ever heard of them?  Most people haven’t.  Without getting too technical, phosphates come from plant vegetation, and once they get in your water, algae loves to feed on them.  So it helps algae become resistent to normal algae killing methods.  In order to get rid of the algae, you must get rid of the phosphates.

There are many different phos free chemicals on the market.  The first step is to bring a water sample to your local pool store and have them test for phosphates.  Once you know what your phosphate level is (mild to severe), then you can get on a treatment program.

The first step is to eliminate the phosphates completely with large doses of phosphate killer.  Then, every week, add a cup of phos free to the pool to keep the phosphates away for good.  This is especially important if you have a large amount of vegetation around your pool because the will come back for sure otherwise.

Now that you know Phosphates cause algae, you have a fighting chance of getting rid of algae for good!
