Last year The Pool Doctor received training and is now an official Pool Aquatic Energy Auditor for the new Title 20 State Regulations. Regulations for any “pool filter pumps,” if 1 h.p. or more, when replaced, must be replaced with either a two speed or a multi speed pump.
Along with the pump, the old timers will need to be replaced with a control that can accommodate a two speed or multi speed pump. We have installed many of the new multi speed pumps and are receiving very good feedback on the energy savings associated with them.
Due to the required run times of commercial/public/central pools, the energy savings that are being realized are quite dramatic. Contra Costa and Alameda County require that all public style pools turn the whole body of over through the filter in six hours. After one complete turnover of the water, the pump can switch to low speed for the balance of the day. In most commercial and public applications, the systems have an additional run time of 12 hours or more that the pump will continue to filter at low speed. The energy savings this passes on to you is substantial.
Once we do an energy audit, we send all the gathered information to Cal Davis/PG&E and let them analyze the information. They will recommend changes and indicate the total dollar savings you would realize by making the changes recommended. The flat fee for the audit is $129, plus the cost of a flow meter if applicable.
