Newborn Photography

If you are an expectant mom in the Bay Area, you will want to capture your newborn’s earliest moments with a professional photographer.

Capturing your newborn’s earliest moments is an experience you will be thankful you did. With a professional photographer, you will get beautiful photos of your little one that will be cherished for the rest of your life.

This article will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about newborn photography in the Bay Area and outline what to expect from the experience.

6 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Newborn Photography

How long does a newborn session last?

A newborn session lasts anywhere between one to three hours. Newborn sessions are infant-led. I expect the infant to require at least one feeding and diaper change during the session. It’s also crucial for both mom and baby to be comfortable and stress-free. This means there may be times we take a break to allow the parents to calm or comfort the baby.

When is the best age to have a newborn photo session?

The sweet spot is usually from around two weeks to about ten weeks. It’s important for mom to feel rested and recovered from childbirth. Younger newborns will tend to sleep during the session, whereas older newborns may be awake and more interactive.

Who is included in the session?

Everyone! Lifestyle newborn sessions are not about getting posed images of the baby. The session is about capturing the connection between the family and their newest family member. While there will be some images of the newborn alone, most images will include the entire family, pets included!

How should we dress the newborn?

Many photos are taken when the baby wears loose fabric, wraps, or nude. One of the advantages of an in-home session is outfit changes are effortless. Make sure you have everything available for the session, including a few diapers, burp cloths, and wraps.

Which is the best place to have newborn sessions?

I prefer having newborn sessions at home. Your home is most likely where you are most comfortable, and what better place for intimate images? New parents realize quickly how much longer it takes to get out of the house with a newborn. Having your session in your home means you don’t have to pack everything and every one up to get to the session.

When do you take your photos?

The best time for a newborn session is around 10 am. At this time, most infants are already awake and tend to be less fussy in the morning. The light in most homes is also better in the mornings.
