When to Schedule Your Maternity Photoshoot | Piedmont Maternity Photographer

Posted in: Industry News

You just found out you’re pregnant and you want to schedule a maternity photoshoot. When should you schedule this type of photoshoot? Is it best to schedule it immediately or should you wait?

It’s an exciting time and you certainly want to remember your pregnancy forever. With the right maternity photographer, you’ll have timeless images to enjoy forever.

When Should You Schedule Your Maternity Photoshoot?

The simple answer to this question is between week 28 and week 36. Of course, there are more things to consider than just how pregnant you will be and which week you’re in.

Which Trimester is Best for a Maternity Photoshoot?

You might want to schedule multiple photoshoots, if you want to see the changes in your belly throughout your pregnancy. If this is the case, scheduling a maternity photoshoot for each trimester might work well. Aim for the end of each trimester, if possible.

If you plan to schedule just one maternity photoshoot, it’s best to choose the third trimester. This is when you’ll be the most pregnant and you’ll have a nice, round bump. However, don’t wait until the very end of the pregnancy in case the baby comes early or the aches and pains have become too much.

Consider the Weather

If you plan to do an outdoor maternity photoshoot, you’ll want to consider the weather. A hotter climate might not work well for photoshoots in July or August. It might be better to schedule outside the third trimester if you’re due in August.

The best weather for any type of photoshoot is often found in the autumn. If it’s an option, schedule your maternity photoshoot during the fall months.

You’re Availability

Along with the weather, you have to consider when you’re available. You might have a job or other obligations you already know about. There are several things you might need to schedule around and might interfere with the perfect time for your maternity photoshoot.

It’s best to make sure you will have a good bump since that’s the entire point of the photoshoot. However, you can schedule outside the weeks of 28 and 36, if you don’t believe that time in your pregnancy will work for you.

Schedule Your Maternity Photoshoot Early

You want to get your maternity photoshoot on the books as soon as possible. Even if you’re only four weeks along, call your photographer and get it scheduled before they book up.

If you find out you will be having twins, you should also schedule your maternity photoshoot early. In this case, you want to shoot for weeks 27 to 30, since twins tend to come a bit earlier. They also cause a larger bump for many women, so scheduling your photoshoot early works out well.
