Moms Can Tap Into Their Full Potential When They Outsmart Stress And Overwhelm

Perspective and permission are the key ingredients to making positive changes in your life.

Many moms I talk to share how they feel like they’ve got so much untapped potential, and have so many dreams, but stress and overwhelm get in the way. Do you feel or believe that you can have it all without doing it all? I know that’s a loaded question. As a mom, whether your working or running you own business, it’s really about what “it” means. Let’s talk about this for a minute. But before we do, I wanna share a really funny experience I had.

Many years back, my husband and I were going to therapy, because we’re having some very difficult times in our relationship. The therapist said to me, “you’re a high-functioning female,” wait…what? I thought. I had to stop for a minute to figure out if what she just said to me was an insult or is that a compliment. I didn’t quite know, but it made me stop and think.

I was really heading towards burnout and exhaustion and in fact I hit the wall of chronic fatigue. I wanted to share my story, because I’m devoted to supporting moms, and help them figure out what’s causing the motherload. So, the questions are:

Q. When we say we want it all, what does “it” mean?

Q. What’s getting in the way of having it all?

Moms and a lot of women are can be externally motivated. We’re looking to either please other people to feel a sense of worth and value, or we’re needing something outside of ourselves to make us feel happy satisfied. Some of the goodness that’s happening right is that we’re having to stop and re-access everything. Many of us are having to stop, look around to figure out what the heck is really going on in our lives.

We might ask ourselfves:

Q.What’s not working?

Q.How am I coping right now?

Q. Am I coping in a healthy or unhealty way?

In a recent poll, 85% of moms said they didn’t feel supported by their family or society. That’s really heartbreaking. You probably read articles daily about the stress that mothers are going through, especially right now. So, first and foremost, know yourself. Know what you need. Be clear about what’s important to you, and what you value.Notice if you’re reaching for things outside yourself for happiness.

Give yourself permission to cultivate your own sense of self, your authentic self. This way, you can start to say no to things that aren’t aligned with your sense of self, and your values. Giving yourself permission to say no and set boundaries with your time and energy, will help you claim your power. So, noticed the people and situations that drain you. That’s a great place to start. Permission and perspective will help you make some positive changes in your life.

I’ve got a program called Self-Care Project For Moms. Sound like support your could use? Check in out HERE!

In gratitude, Lorie
