Electricians Tip | What to do if your power goes out

Posted in: Industry News

Here in the bay area we are lucky enough to not have very severe weather. But thats not to say it wont happen once or twice a year. If your unlucky enough to have your power interuppted this is something you should know.

  1. When you lose power from your service go to your panel and make sure none of your breakers are tripped. If your unsure where your panel is find the electricity line coming in from your house from the pole. Your panel is usually directly below the “drop”
  2. If you truely did lose power the first thing to do is turn off all your breakers. The reason is that when power is restored often times there can be extreme surges that can do serious damage. Electricity is a dangerous thing and to have several thousand volts sent through your television will destroy it.
  3.  When you notice the street lights or neighbors power is returning go to your main panel. First thing to turn on is the main breaker.
  4. Then turn on one breaker at a time with a 5 second interval between turning on the others one, this prevents a power surge.

If your power is not restored and you think a fuse has gone bad or some damage has been done please contact us at 510 333 9437 ROSSCO ELECTRIC
