Oakland, CA – 2007 E320 Mercedes Benz Auto Repair | Car Battery Dies Quickly

Posted in: Videos

Recently, we had an East Bay Area customer bring in their Mercedes Benz for some auto repair work.

The problem she was experiencing was her car battery would die after just 2 or 3 days, and she wasn’t leaving a light on or a door open, etc.  This video shows how we were able to troubleshoot, diagnose and fix the problem.  If you have a Mercedes Benz, or other type of foreign vehicle that we service, and you’re experiencing the same or similar issue, give us a call.  We can help with car battery issues as well as any other small or major problem you may be having.

In the video, what you see is we’re working on a 2007 E320 Mercedes Benz.  The customer brought the car in because the battery was dying after just 3 days.  I did some digging and found that it had a 500 milliamp draw , which is excessive.  You typically want to see anywhere between 40 and 50 milliamps maximum.   So 500 was definitely excessive.

So, we started looking at all the fuses with the voltmeter, but we couldn’t find a draw there.  So it got to the point where I had to start disconnecting control modules.

I got to the front SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) and I disconnected connector #14, which is part of the ESP system.  Then I went to the ESP control module and disconnected it and the draw would go away.  So I thought, ‘Okay, maybe it’s ESP control module.’  But, then I started to unplug wires individually and found that the draw was coming from the stop left break switch, and it was something I hadn’t seen before.  So we replaced the switch and now the problem is fixed.

Electrical diagnostics is just one aspect of automotive repair where we are specialized.  We can work on any part of the car, as long as it is a Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mini Cooper or Volkswagen.  If you have any questions about auto repair, feel free to give us a call.  If you would like to schedule an appointment to bring your car in for work or an inspection, either give us a call, or visit our website and set up an appointment using the appointment scheduler.
