A homeowner gave our team of dedicated professionals a call last week with a few symptoms from their plumbing fixtures that led them to believe that something was wrong. Their toilets were gurgling, their drains were slow, and there was an unpleasant sewage odor emanating from their bathroom utilities. After taking a look around and testing out a thing or two, it was determined there most likely was a clog in their plumbing vent. We got to solving the problem right away.
The approach for fixing this problem was to gain access to the plumbing vent from the rooftop of the home. Utilizing a special plumbing tool called a plumbers snake, complete with an LED light and miniature camera monitoring system, our technicians were able to see down into the plumbing vent. As the camera was lowered down the pipe, it became suddenly clear where the source of the problem was.
Several feet down the pipe, the camera revealed a mass of debris plugging up the vent pipe. There was no visibility around or through the plug, and the next route was to try to remove it. Utilizing another tool similar to the first snake was a hook. This hook was lowered down and, while maintaining visuals on the clog with the camera, used to pull apart the debris until there was some room for water to pass through. Once there was an opportunity for passage, a hose was then lowered down the pipe and the rest of the blockage was flushed out of the pipe.
To test if the pipe was cured of the clog, another technician found the toilet in the home below that eliminated water right below where the clog was identified and flushed it. The water being eliminated from the toilet was now visible and running freely through the pipe. Another job well done!
