Nashville, TN – DIY Plumbing Project Preparation And The Importance Of Safety By…

Back in 2018, Jack Ward and Sons received a call from a Nashville man that needed assistance feeding an auger cable through his sewer pipe. We quickly dispatched one of our service members to the gentleman’s home only to experience one of our most memorable DIY mishaps.

As our handyman exited his vehicle, he was immediately greeted with a loud welcome, “I’m back here, come around!” What he found next was surprising! The man calmly told our technician that before he got to work, he needed a helping hand because his arm had become stuck in the pipe. He explains that the auger he used was too short, so he used his arm to add an extra foot of length, feeling that he almost had the clog out. Little did he know that when he would stick his arm in, it would become stuck. The two men gave it a little tug and his arm came right out.

The man was grateful and they both discovered he had been right about almost reaching the clog. He was only about 3 feet from having been able to dislodge that impacted pipe.

Our technician left the scene with not only a funny story to tell but a message as well. The moral of this story is: don’t stick your arm in pipes. They might seem safe from the outside, but this story could have ended much worse. If he had not called prior to getting stuck, he might have had to wait for help to find him, possibly causing damage to his arm, or he could have needed emergency intervention to safely cut his arm out of the pipe.

DIY methods are always very satisfying when approaching a well prepared, but never compromise safety! If you need assistance with any plumbing job big small give us a call today.

Nashvillle, TN – Ways You Can Help Prevent Keeping Your Pipes From Leaking

Ways You Can Help Prevent Keeping Your Pipes From Leaking

No matter what condition the pipes for your home are currently in, the fact that they will get older and more brittle every day stands alone. You may not be able to keep your pipes from getting weathered, but you can help that process happen much slower by taking precautions to extend their life as long as possible. The following tips will help you keep those pipes working at their best, even when their best is getting a little less.

The water pressure in your home can play a negative role in the functioning and longevity of your pipes. Keeping the water pressure in your home set at a high level raises the convenience of taking a shower or washing the dishes, making things flowing quickly and strongly. The problem is, however, that consistent high pressure can put a lot of stress on the integrity of the pipes and all of the joints and valves involved.

Some things you can do to check the water pressure to keep it in the optimal range:

Your local plumber can help you measure the pressure, simply give them a call! You can also purchase a hose bib gauge to do it yourself.
Be sure to set the water pressure to a comfortable and efficient range, between 40 to 85 psi.
Another factor that puts the beat on the plumbing pipes in your home could be the presence of hard water being used in your home. This creates corroding of the joints and fittings, causing the pipes to come apart much more readily than if they were distributing soft water. The following signs indicate that you have hard water and might want to consider switching to a soft water system:
If you find white granules or residue on surfaces surrounding or on plumbing fixtures, like shower heads for example, it could mean you are using hard water.
Test your water, you will be looking for a number below 140 parts per million.
You won’t be able to keep the pipes from degrading, but you can contact your local professionals at Jack Ward & Sons Plumbing Co. at (615)-227-2811, today!

Proudly Serving Commercial Locations and Businesses In Nashville, Tennessee

Jack Ward & Sons Plumbing has been proudly serving excellent, cost-efficient plumbing solutions to commercial locations and businesses in the Nashville, Tennessee community for 45 years. Our plumbing service professionals help to keep things running smoothly when it comes to plumbing mishaps or disasters. A recent call made to the team was in regards to a restroom of a restaurant that had flooded, causing them to lose business from some of their customers.

A speedy trip was made to the commercial location, and the team got to work right away. First, the initial cleaning of the bathroom’s current condition and prepping for the repairs on the broken toilet were completed. An inspection of the external plumbing behind the toilet revealed that a corroded valve had given way and one flush was all it took for the water to begin to flood continuously and at a high rate. The water supply to the restroom had to be cut off by an employee of the business in order to stop the flooding.

The corroded valve was removed from the supply line and replaced with a new, more resilient piece. The team then performed a thorough inspection of the remaining plumbing systems in the restroom to identify if there were any additional corroded valves or plumbing components that were just as faulty. The search proved positive for a restroom that was otherwise running in great condition. All that was left of the job was to simply pack up the tools, and it was time to call it a day at the business that had chosen a local group of plumbing professionals for assistance with their troubles.
