As you know, we love everything about the holidays, whether it’s viewing all the spectacular lighting displays, decorating the tree, or making a wreath by hand. Make your home look warm and welcoming for guests with your own!

Gather your supplies

Go outside with the kids (after bundling up!) and collect all the greenery. Using garden shears, cut some greenery from pine trees, evergreens, junipers, and any other trees or bushes that look neat. This includes pine needles and pine cones, too. Other good decorations are baby’s breath, dried flowers, small ornaments, and bows. You’ll also want a wreath form to keep the shape in order. If you don’t have a form (available at craft stores) you can make your own using wire hangers that free from the dry cleaners. Shape the hangers into a circle as best you can, and use floral wire to secure them together. Use wire cutters to remove the hook from all but one of the hangers, and voila! You have a wreath frame that’s ready to hang. 

Assemble the wreath 

Wrap the greens around the form, making sure the branches point in the same direction. Some expert wreath-makers in the past have suggested soaking the branches in warm water before you start wrapping them around the form. This is to help them become more flexible and to prevent them from snapping while working with them, so we’ll definitely give this a try next time! Use your floral wire to attach any little decorative details you’d like to add. Things like berries, flowers, and the pine cones you found earlier all make great additions to your wreath.
