Previously, we talked a little bit about getting your fireplace mantel ready for the holidays. To go one step further, we’re sharing some creative ideas for Christmas stockings.

The stockings above still maintain the traditional Christmas palette of green and red, but the look is mixed up with different patterns. Use fabric letters to monogram the first initial of each stocking for every family member. This way, Santa Claus knows where to leave the presents for each person! The end result is great for a big family that loves a classic look but wants a bit more personalization and modernity.

Another great option for a stocking color palette would be blue or purple with metallics like silver, gold, and pewter. Deep purples and royal blues are reminiscent of a silent night, and the metallic accents bring some glitz and give a nod to the wise men. We’ve seen some beautifully patterned stocking fabrics that have just as much Christmas spirit as their red and green counterparts.

Of course, you can always go with the classic stocking version of red stocking with faux fur white trim. We’ve even seen red stockings with black trim, white stockings with green trim, and other fun combinations. You can maintain the tradition of the Christmas stocking over the fireplace, but update the look with fabrics that match your decor.
