When should Christmas lights go up in Tennessee?

Christmas Lights in October?

Ok, so you want to enjoy your Christmas lighting display for absolutely as long as possible, right? Us too. But where is the line between early enough to be festive throughout the Christmas season, and when is so early it’s tacky. As with everything holiday, there are different schools of thought on the matter.

About the earliest acceptable time to have holiday lights come on for most people is the first of November. Anything before Halloween just doesn’t quite feel right, though we love that holiday spirit!

A more popular time is one month before Christmas, or Thanksgiving Day, whichever is earlier. Thanksgiving is when many places that are famous for their lights, like The Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, turn on their lights. It can be a fun way to finish Thanksgiving dinner too. This also roughly corresponds to the beginning of Advent, which is four Sundays before Christmas.

For other folks, December 1st is the true start of the Christmas season. It gives you a few weeks to enjoy how beautiful your house looks all lit up without stepping on any other holidays.

Another fun tradition is to decorate 12 days before Christmas. We’re all familiar with the song, the Twelve Days of Christmas, and a lot of people use 12 days before Christmas and 12 days after as a rule of thumb.

Of course, it’s never too late to get into the spirit. Even if you’re decorating on Christmas Eve, some twinkling lights and a few carols will really get you in the spirit for the big day!

Now here’s the trick: if you want to have your lights ready to turn on Thanksgiving Day, you need to have them installed ahead of time. No one wants the extra stress of decorating with everything else to be done to prepare for Thanksgiving. That’s where we come in.   At the Christmas Light Pros of Tennessee, we are professionals at beautiful Christmas light installation. Let us know when your ideal day is to have the lights come on, and we’ll schedule you ahead of time, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy! We are already booking for the 2014 season and would love to come out and give you a free consultation.
