Project:  Application of vinyl to a lexan sign face

Vinyl is a significant part of the foundation of the sign industry and is often used in a majority of sign products. Although there are many different types and qualities of vinyl one of the very basic products is cut vinyl. Cut vinyl comes as a single color roll and the three main types are high performance (or cast), calendered and translucent. High performance vinyl is used on more durable substrates such as vehicles, aluminum, dibond and acrylic. Calendered vinyl is often applied to shorter term materials such as MDO, glass, banner and PVC. Translucent is only necessary when a sign is going to be illuminated and is applied to acrylic or lexan. Every color in a cut vinyl sign must be cut separately and then mounted to the substrate.

This particular sign was made for Industrial Electrical Company in Modesto, CA. The sign is a lexan material that will be the face for sign frame being installed on one of their shop buildings. Lexan instead of acrylic is used due to the size of the sign and high performance vinyl is being applied because the sign is non illuminated. As you can see each color is applied separately using transfer tape and a squeegee. After a quick clean, the sign is ready to be loaded on the truck and taken to location for install.
