The use of sign letters made from foam is an effective and affordable way of adding dimension to your sign. In this week’s article we present how foam can be used in sign making.

Foam is often used in sign making as it is inexpensive, versatile and easy to work with. Letters and logos can be made in a wide variety of type styles and can be finished in a number of way. The use of foam allows you to add impressive dimensional signage for much less than many other lettering materials. Dimensional letters made with foam add depth without the higher cost typically associated with letters made entirely of metal for example.

The face of foam sign letters are typically laminated with acrylic or metal. The return, or side of the foam letters are painted in a complementary color. A metal faced foam sign provides a professional appearance and is often used for lobby signs and other wall lettering, etc.

Painted Foam Letters
Fatorfoam is a light-weight, high density foam with a hard, smooth veneer surface. Letters can be made from Gatorform for cost effective dimensional letters. Gatorfoam can be painted any custom color or laminated with hundreds of custom laminates including acrylic, Formica and Chemetal.

Painted HDU
HDU is high density urethane. Painted HDU letters can be used outdoors where extreme weather may be a factor. HDU resists rotting and moisture and will not crack when exposed to the elements. It is typically painted with a high quality outdoor paint and can also be laminated with acrylic or aluminum.

Letterfoam

Similar to Gatorfoam yet more durable, Letterfoam is foam with a smooth aluminum face. Letters made from Letterfoam give the impression of a solid, thick painted metal letter, yet are a very economical exterior dimensional letter with good durability.
