IMG_1504 So you have a 35′ wall that every customer that comes into your establishment will see.  What do you do with the wall? You need a powerful message that reflects the very philosophy of your company.  You want it big and loud so that everyone knows what you are about.  That is what CiCi’s Pizza hired Optimum Signs to deliver.  Loud and proud.

A great many companies think that using this type of wall covering is expensive and difficult to install.  While it can be if you are covering several hundred square feet, it doesn’t have to be.  In this case, we worked with the national chain’s facilities group that was responsible with delivering a completed store to the new owner.  The design followed the chains national footprint for new stores.  Lots of tile and wood finishes.  The colors were again determined by the store model.  This is where a company like Optimum Signs really proves our value to our customers.  The vinyl by its very nature will try to stretch, especially wall grade material because we don’t laminate the product.  It is very thin.  We have seen jobs that we were called in the fix that the original installers had a drop of over 1″ in 20 feet. This is completely unacceptable.  In this case, over 35′, we had 1/8″ inch drop which no one is going to see.

When we start a job like this, it is critical that we know what brand/type of paint was used.  This is so important.  The paint, even low VOC paints, have to have at least 7 days to off gas, otherwise the vinyl will bubble and look terrible.  The other issue with newly painted surfaces is that a large number of paints have teflon or a teflon-like additive to prevent dirt from sticking to the paint.  This additive also prevents any kind of vinyl from adhering to the wall.  It is so important that the first piece of vinyl is perfect because as you move across 35′ what starts off as 1/8′ can end up being off several inches.  The first piece usually takes double the amount of time that the other pieces take.  We also install the vinyl from the front to the back so we can bury the seams.  This makes the junction points almost disappear.  Overall, one hour and 15 minutes later we were cleaning up and heading back to the shop.
