New Menu Boards for Dunn Brother’s Coffee in West Bend, Wisconsin

Posted in: Recent Projects

Dunn Brothers menu sign  At Optimum Signs, we truly enjoy working with our corporate customers, but some jobs are more fun than others. This one was definitely one of those jobs.  The team at Dunn Brother’s Coffee in West Bend, Wisconsin are a great group of people to work with.  It’s also fun to change out a menu board while the restaurant is open for business! Most folks don’t realize the constraints that you have to work with. You have to stay out of the way of the employees while they continue to serve customers. You have to keep the work surfaces clean and dust free. Most of all you have to make sure that none of Dunn Brother’s customers are inconvenienced during the change out. After all, we are there to serve our customer, not get in the way.

We started off removing the existing menu boards that had been in place for a few years.  The edges were bent and the surface of the boards were scratched. Overall, not the image that you want your customers to see.  We noticed that the existing boards were cobbled together to fit the frame that held the board to the ceiling.  There were set screws, wing nuts and even some bailing wire holding the old sign to the ceiling.  After we removed the contraption holding the frame up, we put together the new sign.  The frame was thin .018 fabricated steel on an epoxy resin frame. This allowed us to suspend the frame above a work area because the sign weighs less than 20 pounds.  By using a cable system that is guaranteed to hold 150 pounds and attaching directly to the ceiling joists,  we avoided drilling into the ceiling.  We also used a laser level to ensure that the menu was level across the entire length of the menu.  The menu items were printed on standard magnetic material and framed on the menu by guidelines printed on the main board. A little dusting and the menu board was perfect. In and back out, all cleaned up, in under 2 hours.

This job shows the versatility of the Optimum Signs installation crew.  If you happen to have a restaurant or retail establishment and you are looking for a creative approach for your menu boards, please call us at Optimum Signs.
