IMG_0911  When I meet Josh and Fan at S & F Automotive, one of the first things they said to me is that they needed to do something about the sign on his building. I asked why. Josh said that the banner that they had up for the past year just wasn’t cutting it. Um, ok.

What started as a temporary solution to a new business became a longer term problem.  Once they had the banner up, problem solved, right? Not so.  We started by looking at the total square footage of the building. We also checked with the City of West Allis to see what the municipal codes would allow. We played with several fonts and none of them really reflected what Josh was looking for.  So I sat down with my designer and we brainstormed some of the less used fonts for LED channel letters. We came across a script text that really seemed to jump off the page. After showing Josh the pictures, he agreed.  Off to City Hall to file for permits. It just so happens that I got a hold of the most helpful person in West Allis city government, Shaun Miller, Sr. Planning Manager.  Shaun helped us navigate the different codes and building requirements that allowed us to file for permits and receive them inside of 2 weeks.  Now with permits in hand, it was time to order the lights and get this project moving.  Prior to us installing the new LED sign, Josh had asked us if we could also install his sign from Bosch as he had the sign sitting in his office for the past 8 months.  Of course we can but we have to amend the permits form the City. Again Shaun was very helpful.

The day of install we set the Bosch sign first.  After installing the full sized template on the face of the building, we drilled the 3/8″ holes for the reinforced tapcons we use to attach the signs.  It only took about 45 minutes to get the LED’s on the wall and turn the project over to our electricians.  When Joe from JVS attacked the project he knew exactly what he was doing.  Running power from one point to another, installing a new sensor so that S&F didn’t have to remember to turn on the sign and balancing the power load in the shop all inside two hours.  When we lit the sign, Josh and Fan were very happy.  It was everything that they wanted.  Josh even commented that he had not had this good of an experience working with a company in a very long time.
