   Just this week, someone asked me how I got into the sign business given my past experience as a regional sales manager for a very large telecom company.  The decal above is how it all started and what gave birth to Optimum Signs.

My story begins in early 2014 when our Grandmaster asked me if I knew anyone that could make a window decal like the one above.  I really didn’t know anyone but I figured that I could source almost anything so I accepted the challenge.  To say that I was about to get an eye opening would be an understatement.  Over the course of a week, I stopped at 5 different sign companies located in strip malls.  One after another I was told that they really didn’t do window decals. I asked if they could do decals and they said they could, they just didn’t want to. I stated that I had a file in .AI (which at the time I had no idea what that meant) and I needed 500 of them. Nope, not interested. I had one company tell me that if I wanted 5 or 6 they could do that. What was I missing? I was holding in my hand an order for at least $500, more likely closer to $750 and I can’t get anyone to take the money!  I had a thought. Maybe the companies I was talking to were too small to handle the order. Maybe the internet will provide an answer.  After searching for sign companies online I realized that sign companies were like snowflakes. They were literally everywhere and no two were alike.  So I contacted 11 sign companies online leaving my contact information and the details of the order.  I thought for sure I would get a several responses. Out of the 11, only one called me back and he told me that he could make the decals for a price and that I should charge the price plus a little more. And so a thought was borne.  What if I was to solve the problem that all the sign companies seemed too busy to help new customers? What if I could provide customer service the way it should be done and not make customers beg for a response? Sounds like an idea. So I packed up my corporate baggage and headed for the door.
