Custom Yard Signs on Poly Coated Board – Coroplast – Aluminum What difference does it make?

There are few items in the marketing playbook as tried and true as the yard sign.  Rummage sales to business grand openings, this type of sign is everywhere.  Why is that? What makes these type of signs so very popular? As you will see, it depends.

The standard yard sign is available in 3 different styles: poly coated board; coroplast (plastic); and aluminum.  The majority of these signs are two sided and either single or dual color.  They also come with a metal stake in either 18″ or 30″.  How do you decide on which is right for you? It’s relatively simple. How long do you plan on the sign being in place?  The poly coated is great if you only need the sign for 30 days.  These are single use and should be disposed of after the event. Most are  screen printed. For anything 30 days to 6 months and will be reused, the coroplast (plastic) is a perfect fit. Coroplast can be printed directly to the substrate or printed vinyl applied to the coroplast. This sign is more sturdy and will last through multiple uses.   Of course if you need something that you plan to use many times, the aluminum signs are perfect.  Especially when you add a custom frame made out of either oak or cedar.

So you have decided on the type of sign, now what? The design is probably the single most important factor as to whether the sign is effective or not.  Remember, typically a consumer has less than 4 seconds to read the sign.  The colors must be distinct with a strong contrast. The information has to be easy to read and very clear.  Remember, only 4 seconds.  The question we like to ask our customers when we design these types of signs is “what message do you want to deliver?” The use of pictures or graphics are a good idea as long as they add to the message. Too much information will hurt your message and reduce the visibility of your critical information. You have many options, choose well.
