Muskego, WI – Custom Business Wall Sign for Local Business

Posted in: Client Examples,Recent Projects

Another beautiful custom sign.  This sign is part of a growing number of HDU signs that we are doing.  HDU stands for High Density Urethane.  HDU signs are incredibly durable and resist weather, bugs and birds and will look great for years to come.

Roll N Go is located in Muskego, Wisconsin and specializes in supplying materials to the individual that prefers to roll their own cigarettes.  From bulk tobacco and rolling papers to products for vaping, they stock it.  Despite being in their current location for over 7 years, they never put up a sign.  There was always a good reason not to from the remodeling of the strip mall to the awnings making it more difficult.  Finally Dan decided enough is enough.  He needed a sign.  We started with the sign that Dan had painted when he first opened.  The sign had been placed by the doors on the ground for at least the past 5 years. Right were no one could see it!  We decided on reproducing this sign and changing the colors so that the sign would really stand out.

We started with a 4′ x 8′ sheet of HDU. The HDU comes in sheets that are just like a laminated piece of lumber. The sheet is made up of multiple sheets of HDU pressed together, just like a laminated piece of lumber. This creates a piece of material that is more than 20% stronger than a single piece of the same thickness.  We laid out the sign and ran the HDU through a CNC machine to create the shape.  Once we had the shape, we cleaned up the piece and took it to get painted.  We painted the sides of the MDU with flat black latex house paint.  This seals the edges and really helps the PVC “disappear” so the sign is the focal point.  We then print the face of the sign.  When we attach the print to the HDU, we prime the material with a “primer” that creates a very strong bond to the print.  No way the wind, rain or snow will get behind this.  The final step is to layout the location for the mounting hardware.  For this sign we used 1/8″ lag bolts set in an expansion sleeve.  We also created a template so we could mount the template to the face of the building, drill the holes and set the sleeves, then  mount the sign.
